Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Use the Stock Voice Recorder Applications

Samsung Galaxy SIII comes with some pre-installed applications that you can use directly without having to install it first. One of which is S Suggest apps, this applications will helps you to know which recommended popular applications that compatible with your phone that you should choose to install.

Another pre-installed apps that you can find inside Samsung Galaxy SIII is voice recorder apps. This apps will allow you to record an audio file and share it using AllShare, Messaging, Gmail or Bluetooth.


How to record audio using voice recorder?
Below are the steps to do so:
  1. Go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Scroll to Voice recorder, then tap on it.
  3. Tap Red circle button to start recording.
  4. Now you can speak into the microphone.
  5. While your phone record the audio, you can utilize some option available there:
    • Tap Stop button to stop recording. It will automatically save the audio file and the recorded files screen is displayed.
    • Tap Pause button to temporarily stop the recording and tap Record button again to resume recording.
    • Tap Cancel button to cancel the recording without saving.
  6. Finish. Now you have managed to record an audio using the stock voice recorder applications.

It's easy to do, right? Now you can record audio files you want using voice recorder apps available on your phone, save it then listen to it again later. So, hope this helps :)

      Trimming is adjusting the start and end points of the voice recorded file. Unfortunately, this apps has no option to trim. If you don't mind, you can browse through the Google Play Store to find the best one that have the option to trim.

      I don't know the exact duration. Theoretically you can record the voice as long as you have enough battery and memory to do so. From several forum I've visited, I've find the user that able to record voice up to 4 hours.

  3. My voice recorder stopped playing my recordings. How do I fix that?

    2. I didn't receive an error notification. But every time I press play, the phone itself freezes, and after a short time it would unfreeze and the recording won't play. Aldo, sometimes I can listen to a recording but if I press pause or I want to skip ahead, it freezes again, and then unfreezes, and then the recording stops completely.

      Thanks for getting back here.
      First try to clear cache, clear data and force stop of the Voice recorder app. You can do so by going to Settings> tap More tab> tap Application manager> swipe to the All screen> find Voice recorder, then tap it> tap Clear cache button, Clear data button and Force stop button and then restart the phone and see whether it solve the problem.

      Second, try to uninstall or disable unused apps on your phone, low RAM sometimes make the phone freezes.

      Well, you can do so through Voice recorder app or Email app or through My Files app. But, as the example, here I show you how to do so through Voice recorder app and Email app.
      Method #1: from Voice recorder app
      1. Open Voice recorder app.
      2. Tap the Up arrow icon (^)at the bottom right corner to see all of recorded files.
      3. Long tap the desired recorded file you wish to share, then on pop up menu select "Share via" then select "Email".
      4. The selected recorded file will be attached in your Email.

      Method #2: from Email app
      1. Open Email app and then create new email message.
      2. Tap Attach button located at the top of the screen and then select "Audio" to attach recorded file.
      3. Select the desired recorded file you wish to attach.
      4. The selected recorded file will be attached into your email message.

      I've just tried in my Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 (the setting to limit for MMS is enabled), the longest voice recording is 3 minutes 8 seconds(295KB).

  6. I trimmed a recording and i made a mistake and made it the original copy, so is there a way to get the actual recording back

      When you're trimming a recorded file, you'll be given two options:
      1. Trim original file: if you select this option, a trimmed file will replace the original file.
      2. Trim as new file: if you select this option, a trimmed file will be saved as a new file and the original file will remain there.

      So, it depends on your choice. If you choose option #2, you still have the original file and you can find it in the recorded files list. And as far as I know there's no way to get back the original recorded file once you're replacing it because the Voice recorder app is not synced with any apps.

  7. I have bought an S3 Galaxy couple of weeks ago (April 2014) for Canadian $400 plus tax as a new phone (just told by the shop). But when I have just played around with the voice recorder I have found a record (just whistling only - but very unprofessional way) but this was dated on the app as 31st of December 2011. Have I been cheated with the used phone or phone bug or...? Can anyone help me please? Thanks, JR

      There are some possible ways that you can do to know whether your phone is new or used:
      1. Try to go to Settings> tap "More" tab> scroll to the very bottom to find "About device" and then tap it> tap "Status"> scroll down to find "My phone number" and then see the value in this option. If your phone number is listed there then it's(probably) new and you're the first user who has inserted the SIM card, while if the value is "Unknown" then it means that you're not the first user who has inserted the SIM card in this phone which mean the phone(probably) has been used by other users.
      2. Try to take a look at the phone(USB port, camera lens, physical button, etc), whether there are scratches or marks or other sign of uses.
      3. Make sure the IMEI number listed on your phone is the same as the IMEI number listed on your phone box.
      4. Make sure the seal was not broken and you got the warranty at the time you bought the phone.
      5. Try to call Samsung and then ask them to check whether the phone has been registered by someone else or not.

      1. Yes, I have followed your instructions and it shows my phone number on that particular area.
      2. There are no visible marks
      3. Those numbers are identical on the box and on the list of my phone system
      4. Would you be able to explain to me again what kind of seal is that? (May be a silly question?)
      5. Yes I called Samsung Canada and they told me that they could not find my IMEI number in their system therefore they connected me to Samsung US and Samsung US answered me that they have my IMEI number as this phone was bought by the carrier T=Mobile which supplies to my phone company Mobilicity. Anyways Samsung US has no further records of any private customer’s information of this phone.

      But still I am not 100% happy with this phone as battery charge goes very fast within 6 hours even without any large number of phone calls or surfing internet. I will call Mobilicity tomorrow to tell these issues.

      One more concern: As I have already told you that the mysterious voice recorder message shows it was recorded on the 12/31/2011 and here is my question, Samsung Galaxy S3 was introduced to the world in May 29th 2012, and how could have this been recorded before this phone existed?

      I'll try to answer your questions:
      1. About the seal
      When we buy a new phone, the box should be sealed and we shouldn't receive it if the seal is broken.
      2. A strange voice recorded file
      Sadly to say that I don't know what it is, but I believe this is the reason why you're not happy with your new Galaxy S3.
      3. Poor battery life

      Finally, if you tell the truth to the store where you bought the phone about your problem, I believe that they will give you some help and maybe a replacement for your phone due the phone is still under warranty.

      You can delete the recorded files through the Voice recorder app or My Files app

      From the Voice recorder app:
      1. Open Voice recorder app
      2. Tap ^ icon at the bottom right corner of the screen. All recorded files will be displayed here.
      3. To delete a single file:
      - Long tap the required recorded file and then select "Delete".
      - Tap "OK" button.
      4. To delete multiple files:
      - Tap the Menu key and then select "Delete".
      - Select the desired files you want to delete.
      - Tap "Delete" button at the top right corner of the screen.
      - Tap "OK" button

      From My Files app
      1. Open My Files app.
      2. Navigate to the folder named "Sounds" in the internal storage. All recorded files are saved in this folder with .amr extension.
      3. To delete a single file:
      - Long tap the desired .amr file and then select "Delete".
      - Tap "OK" button.
      4. To delete multiple files:
      - Select the desired files by checking the box in the left side of the file name.
      - Tap the Trash can icon at the top of the screen.
      - Tap "OK" button.

  10. I recorded some important interviews with Voice Recorder but my phone has now broken. Are they saved to the SIM or the phone, and could I retreive them by putting my SIM in another phone?

      All recorded files will be saved to the internal storage by default, but you can set it to be saved in the SD card. If you have changed the default storage in the Voice recorder app to SD card, then you can retrieve them by removing your SD card from the phone and then insert it into another phones or PC.

      You can rename the voice recorded files through the app itself or through My Files app.

      From the Voice recorder app.
      1. Open Voice recorder app
      2. Tap ^ icon at the bottom right corner of the screen. All recorded files will be displayed here.
      3. Long tap the required voice recorded file and then select "Rename".
      4. Enter the new name for the selected file and then tap "OK" button.

      From My Files app
      1. Open My Files app.
      2. Tap "All files".
      3. Tap "Device storage".
      4. Tap "Sounds".
      5. Long tap the required voice recorded file and then select "Rename".
      6. Enter the new name for the selected file and then tap "OK" button.

    2. Hi I renamed my recording and now it won't open with the app I was using to listen to it. It won't let me send via email as a sound attachment and the recording is there in word format but not in sound! Help Pls! :(

  12. Hello. I believe I accidentally deleted a "voice recorder" file. Is there any way I can retrieve the deleted file? I'm hoping there is something like a trash bin where it is still accessible.

      There are a lot of recovery app in the Play Store, both free or paid version. But, if your phone is rooted, you can try DiskDigger undelete app. Some users said that this app worked well to retrieve lost files.

I have a galaxy s3, and I recorded a 10 second recording on the voice recorder app. Now when I go to play it, it acts like it's constantly trimming in milliseconds and will only play a tiny clip at a time. It won't play the whole recording. It still shows 10 seconds but also the scissors trimming icon. I just want the whole recording. It played yesterday, but is doing this today. Please tell me what I can do

I have a lot of voice recordings on my galaxy S3, and on the main scren, under the picture of the mic, next to the words Voice 001, (which would be the recording name), there is a two digit number, a slash, another two digit number, a slash, and another two digit number, in red, e.g. 31/56/22, and it counts down like a timer. Please help me, I have no idea what it is, and will it delete any of my recordings?

  15. I am listening to the recordings (On Samsung 3S) and there is a small button which enables you to go back by 60 seconds each time. Is it possible to turn it to 10 or 5 seconds?
