Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Fix Keyboard Always Replace the Typed Word After Update to Android 4.3

An insider has leave his comment here and ask why after he did update his phone to the Android 4.3, the auto correct on his phone tend to rein in what should be typed which will not letting him to type anything anymore without having to correct whatever he really wants to type. Seems the auto correct in this recent update is the stubborn auto-correct and in some cases it's really annoying the user who need to type with the different language than the phone.

At the first time, I thinks that it's about predictive text, but apparently this issue is brought by the new option in the stock keyboard app called auto replacement which will auto replace the word you're typing with the most probable word. Due to the cause, to stop the keyboard always replacing a word the user should turn this option off.

How to disable auto replacement on Android 4.3?
Generally, there are two methods to turn off auto replacement that you can choose which best suit you.
Methods #1: Through the Settings menu
Below are the steps to do so:
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap My device tab.
  3. Tap Language and input.
  4. Tap the cogwheel icon next to Samsung keyboard to access the settings menu.
  5. Slide the switch next to Auto replacement to the left to disable this option.

Method #2: Through the Messaging app
Actually you can do this step using any app which requires you to use keyboard. But, as the example we'll use the Messaging app to do so:
  1. Open Messaging app then create new message.
  2. Tap on Enter messages field to bring up the keyboard.
  3. Tap the Settings icon on the virtual keyboard.
  4. Slide the switch next to Auto replacement to the left to disable this option.

By disabling this option, now whenever you're typing a word then tap the space bar or punctuation mark then the keyboard should not replace your word with the most probable word which in certain case this is might be not the word you want to type. So, hope this helps :)

  2. I found this solution for problems with auto-replace. The ACTUAL problem most seem to have with the post-4.3 update is how small the dictionary is. A lot of common words, most product names, and many other proper nouns are simply left out.

To add a word, auto-replacement MUST be turned ON, not off. When you finish typing a word, in the bar between the text-box and the keyboard there is a curved arrow before the predictive text alternatives for the word you typed. Instead of the spacebar, tap this arrow, then backspace and your word should show as an auto-complete/replace suggestion in the bar. From this point on you should be able to type/swipe the word without it being changed to another.

    1. Hi Dmitri McKnight,
Thanks for coming and share your useful experience here.
Well, I've just duplicated your experience as directed, and it works. The new word automatically added in the predictive text and I'm able to type that word without it being changed to another word, as you've said.
Again, thanks. May God always bless you :)
