  3. : tap it to open Phone app and use it to access dial pad, view call logs and make a call to a contact.
  4. : tap it to add more apps.

  6. : tap it to share information about current location to a contact via message.
  7. : tap it to open the stock Browser app and use it to browse webpages, search something online, etc.
  8. Emergency call : tap this button to make an emergency call.

Emergency mode extends your phone's standby time by taking some actions, one of which is by limiting the number of usable apps. In this mode, you're only allowed to use some provided essential apps and two apps that you have specifically chosen.


How to add apps to the emergency mode home screen?
You can add an app to the emergency mode home screen by using the following steps:
  1. While you're in the emergency mode home screen, tap .
  2. Here, you'll be provided with the list of apps that can be used in this mode.
  3. Select the required app you want to add to.
  4. The selected app has been added to the emergency mode home screen. As a note, you're allowed to add two apps to the emergency mode home screen.

How to remove apps from emergency mode home screen?
If needed, you can remove apps that you have added previously from the emergency mode home screen by using the following steps:
  1. While you're in the emergency mode home screen, tap at the top right or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then select Remove.
  2. Tap at the required apps you want to remove.
  3. Tap OK button at the bottom of the screen to save the changes.
  4. The selected apps have been removed from the emergency mode home screen.

Emergency mode is a feature you can find in your Samsung Galaxy S5 that can be used to extend your phone's standby time as long as possible when you're in an emergency situation. When this mode is enabled, it will save battery by decreasing the screen brightness, changing the colour of your phone's screen to greyscale theme, restricting some other apps and functions, turning off mobile data when the screen is off and turning off connectivity feature(e.g: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth). While you're in this mode, you can send your location via messages, make emergency calls, turn on the flash, sound alarms, and use some apps selected by you.


How to enable the emergency mode?
You can turn this mode on by using three different methods: from the device options, from the settings menu and from the S Finder app.


Method #1: From the device options
It's the fastest method to enable the emergency mode. You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, long press the Power key to open up the device options.
  2. Tap Emergency mode.
  3. A pop up window contains with information about emergency mode will be displayed, tap Enable button.
  4. When the emergency mode is enabled, the colour of your phone's screen will be changed to greyscale theme, the number of usable applications will be limited and some features will be restricted to reduce battery consumption.


Method #2: From the settings menu
If you'd like to turn on the emergency mode through the settings menu, do as follows:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the System section and then tap Safety assistance .
  3. Tap Emergency mode.
  4. Slide the ON/OFF switch to the right.
  5. A pop up window contains with information about emergency mode will be displayed, tap Enable button.
  6. When the emergency mode is enabled, the colour of your phone's screen will be changed to greyscale theme, the number of usable applications will be limited and some features will be restricted to reduce battery consumption.


Method #3: From the S Finder app
If you'd like to turn on the emergency mode through the S Finder app, do as follows:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap S Finder button.
  2. Type "emergency mode" in the search field and then tap at the virtual keyboard to start searching.
  3. In the search result, tap Emergency mode to quickly go to the emergency mode menu.
  4. Slide the ON/OFF switch to the right.
  5. A pop up window contains with information about emergency mode will be displayed, tap Enable button.
  6. When the emergency mode is enabled, the colour of your phone's screen will be changed to greyscale theme, the number of usable applications will be limited and some features will be restricted to reduce battery consumption.

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Change a Memo Category in Memo App in Android 5.0.1 Lollipop

By default, if you don't change the category when composing a new memo, the memo will be placed to the My memo category. However, you can change the memo category to other category, either by moving it to a new category or by moving it to an existing category. This will help you to manage your memos and provide you an easier access since the memos are placing in a proper category.


How to change a memo category in Memo app?
As the example, we'll move a memo from the My memo category to other category by using the following steps:
  1. Open Memo app.
  2. Tap at the top left corner of the screen to open up the Memo app menus.
  3. Tap My memos to view all memos under this category.
  4. Long tap the required memo to select it.
  5. Tap at the top right or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then tap Move. To move the memo to an existing category go to the step #6, while to move the memo to a new category go to the step #7.
  6. Move the memo to an existing category:
    • Tap the required category you want to place the selected memo.
    • The selected memo has been moved to the selected category.
  7. Move the memo to a new category:
    • Tap Create category button.
    • Enter the category name.
    • Tap OK button.
    • The selected memo has been moved to the newly created category.

If you don't change the category when composing a new memo in Memo app, the memo will be placed in the My memos category by default. Fortunately, you're allowed to do some actions to manage categories in this app, e.g: create new categories so that you can classify your memos based on its category for easier access, delete existing categories so that you can clean up Memo app from unused categories, and rename existing categories so that you can give new or proper names for your existing categories.


How to add, delete or rename a category in Memo app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open Memo app.
  2. Tap at the top left corner of the screen to open up the Memo app menus.
  3. Tap Manage categories. To add a new category go to the step #4, to delete an existing category go to the step #5, while to rename an existing category go to the step #6.
  4. Add a new category:
    • Tap at the top right corner of the screen to add a new category.
    • Enter the category name. It'd better if you assign a proper name for the category so that it can describe all memos within it. As the example, you can create "works" as the new category and then place all memos related with your work in this category.
    • Tap OK button.
    • The new category has been added.
  5. Delete an existing category:
    • Tap next to the required category you want to delete to.
    • Tap Delete button to confirm.
    • The selected category has been deleted. As a note, deleting a category won't delete memos within it as they will be moved automatically to the My memos category.
  6. Rename an existing category:
    • Long tap the required category you want to rename to.
    • Enter the new name for the selected category.
    • Tap Rename button.
    • The selected category has been renamed.

Memo is a pre-installed app available in Samsung Galaxy S5 that can be used to easily and quickly save any information. You can use the virtual keyboard to manually type your memo, or you can copy the required information from other apps. 


How to compose a new memo in Memo app?
You can create a new memo in Memo app by using the following steps:
  1. Open Memo app.
  2. Tap to compose a new memo.
  3. Write down your memo in the Add memo field using the virtual keyboard. If you'd like to insert some text you have copied from other apps, long tap the screen and then select Paste to paste the latest copied text or select Clipboard to paste a copied text from the clipboard.
  4. While composing a memo, you can use these following options:
    • : tap this option to add a new category or set a category for your memo.
    • : tap this option to insert images into your memo. You can choose Take picture to take a picture using the stock Camera app or select Image to insert a picture from your Gallery app.
    • : tap this option to make a voice recording and insert it into your memo.
  5. If needed, you can add a title for your memo by entering the required title in the Enter title field above the memo.
  6. Once done, tap Save button to save your memo.

Assistant menu is a feature you can find in your Samsung Galaxy S5. This feature is designed to assist those with dexterity issues or those who want to easily navigate their phones using one hand by providing quick access(the assistant menu icon) to a menu of important functions. However, you can also easily turn this feature off if needed, e.g: when you want to get rid the assistant menu icon from your screen, when you no longer want to use this feature on your phone, etc.


How to disable the assistant menu feature?
You can do so by using some different methods: 1) From the assistant menu icon, 2) From the settings menu, 3) From the S Finder app, and 4) From the direct access menu.


Method #1: From the assistant menu icon
Utilizing the assistant menu icon is the fastest way to turn off the assistant menu feature. You can use the following steps to do so:
  1. On any screen, tap the assistant menu icon and then select Settings to quickly go to the settings menu for the assistant menu feature.
  2. Slide the ON/OFF switch to the left to disable the assistant menu feature. The switch turns gray when it's disabled and the assistant menu icon will disappear from your screen.


Method #2: From the Settings menu
You can use the following steps if you'd like to turn off the assistant menu feature from the general settings menu:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notifications panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Personalisation section and then tap Accessibility.
  3. Tap Dexterity and interaction.
  4. Tap Assistant menu.
  5. Slide the ON/OFF switch to the left to disable the assistant menu feature. The switch turns gray when it's disabled and the assistant menu icon will disappear from your screen.


Method #3: From the S Finder app
You can use the following steps if you'd like to turn off the assistant menu feature from the S Finder app:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notifications panel and then tap S Finder button.
  2. Type "assistant menu" in the search field and then tap at the virtual keyboard to start searching.
  3. In the search result list, tap Assistant menu to go to the assistant menu feature.

Method #4: From the direct access menu
If the direct access menu is enabled, you can use the following steps to turn off the assistant menu feature from the direct access menu:
  1. On any screen, press the Home key three times to open up the direct access menu.

  3. Tap Dexterity and interaction.
  4. Tap Assistant menu.
  5. Slide the ON/OFF switch to the left to disable the assistant menu feature. The switch turns gray when this feature is disabled and the assistant menu icon will disappear from your screen.

One of the apps that is supported by the assistant plus feature is the stock Phone/Contacts app. Thus, you can enable the assistant plus feature for the Phone/Contacts app so that you can easily access to some frequently used options or places in this app, e.g: edit contact, delete contact, add or remove contact from favourites, view call logs, view contacts list, etc.


How to enable the assistant plus feature for the stock Phone/Contacts app?
Assuming that you have enabled the assistant menu feature, you can easily turn on the assistant plus feature for the stock Phone/Contacts app by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, tap the assistant menu icon
    and then select Settings to quickly go to the settings menu for the assistant menu feature.
  2. Tap Assistant plus.
  3. Slide the ON/OFF switch to the right to enable this option. The switch turns green when it's enabled.
  4. Check the box next to Phone/Contacts to enable this option.
  5. The assistant plus feature for the stock Phone/Contacts app has been enabled.


How to use the assistant plus feature in the stock Phone/Contacts app?
When you have enabled the assistant plus feature for the stock Phone/Contacts app, you can use the following steps as the example of using this feature when you're using Phone/Contacts app:
I. While viewing your contacts list
  1. Open Phone/Contacts app.
  2. Tap the Contacts tab.
  3. Tap the assistant menu icon and you'll be provided with these additional contextual menu options:
    • Keypad : tap this option to open up the dial pad.
    • Logs : tap this option to go to the Logs tab and view all of your call histories.
    • Favourites : tap this option to go to the Favourites tab and view you favourite contacts list.
II. While viewing a contact's detail information
  1. Open Phone/Contacts app.
  2. Tap the Contacts tab.
  3. Tap the required contact to view its detail information.
  4. Tap the assistant menu icon and you'll be provided with these additional contextual menu options:
    • Add to favourites : tap this option to add the selected contact to your favourite contacts list.
    • Remove from favourites : if the selected contact has been added to your favourite contacts list, tap this option to remove the contact from the favourite contacts list.
    • Edit : tap this option to edit the selected contact.
    • Delete : tap this option to delete the selected contact.
III. While viewing your favourite contacts list
  1. Open Phone/Contacts app.
  2. Tap the Favourites tab.
  3. Tap the assistant menu icon and you'll be provided with these additional contextual menu options:
    • Keypad : tap this option to open up the dial pad.
    • Logs : tap this option to go to the Logs tab and view all of your call histories.
    • Contacts : tap this option to view your contacts list.
IV. While viewing your call logs
  1. Open Phone/Contacts app.
  2. Tap the Logs tab.

V. While in the dial pad
